Turn off to save money (and the planet)

Energy efficiency is never far from the business and national agenda these days, thanks to real concerns over climate change, ever-diminishing resources and their cost.

Happily, serviced-office clients of The Sanderum Centre are able to boost their green credentials just by sharing joint facilities such as meeting room facilities and kitchens. But if you want to do more, then check out these energy-saving housekeeping tips.

SWITCH IT OFF
Don’t leave equipment powered up when not in use, or when rooms are unoccupied. Switch off air conditioning units, computer screens (when out at lunch, for example), the meeting room LCD screen (don’t leave it on standby) and room lights. Use the photocopier’s power save button when you’ve finished and switch it, and your PC, off completely before going home.

KEEP WARM, STAY COOL
Ensure radiator heat isn’t blocked by furniture and set thermostats no higher than 19°C. If it gets too hot, turn them down – don’t open a window.

Make sure doors and windows are closed in air conditioned areas.

IN THE KITCHEN
Only boil the water you need for tea or coffee and de-scale the kettle regularly to keep it energy efficient. Run the dishwasher with a full load and on the economy wash setting.
